The predecessor of Compensa Life Insurance was Seesam Life Insurance, which was founded in 1993 in Estonia. In 2007, life insurance companies using the same brand in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania were merged and registered as the European business entity Seesam Life Insurance SE. Since 2008, the sole owner of Compensa Life Insurance has been the Vienna Insurance Group. The new business name Compensa Life Vienna Insurance Group SE and the owner's brand Compensa were introduced in 2009. The company's permanent location is in Estonia.

Compensa Life Insurance has a total of 19 offices in the three Baltic countries and employs 234 people.

Since 2016, Vienibas Gatve Investment OÜ, Compensa Life Distribution UAB (subsidiaries of Compensa Life Insurance) and Vienibas Gatve Properties SIA (a subsidiary of Vienibas Gatve Investment OÜ) have been part of the same consolidation group (hereinafter Compensa).

As of 31.12.2021, a total of 15 people were employed in the subsidiaries.
