One of the largest steel aerosol packaging manufacturers in Europe - Metaprint AS was established in 1995.

The company, owned by Estonian owners, has factories in Tallinn and Pärnu.

The company is mainly focused on the production of aerosol packaging for technical products, but in addition to this, packaging is also produced for the food industry and beauty products.

The larger product groups of technical products are construction chemicals, paints, lubricants, as well as technical cleaning agents. Food packaging is mainly used for products intended for greasing forms used in whipped cream and bakery industries. In the case of beauty products, these are mainly packaging for hair care products and shaving foams. New added product groups include packaging for pesticides and insecticides.

In the past 2022 fiscal year, large-scale investment projects started in the previous period were accounted for in new equipment totaling 4.5 million euros. The focus was still on increasing the production capacity of the component factory. This time it was about completing projects that had been started earlier. An end component production line was added, which equalized the total number of ends and bottoms produced after commissioning. As pointed out in the previous activity report, this was accompanied by a production capacity of 680 million end and bottom components. These are complex products that, in addition to their own needs, also have strong demand in the market. Therefore, we foresee an increase in production capacity in the coming years, first to 1 billion sets, with the possibility of later expansion up to 1.2 billion sets. However, this is within the framework of a new factory to be built in Tallinn, as the space program of the existing factory is completely exhausted. Construction of the factory is planned to start in 2024, the factory is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2025.

The current 2023 fiscal year will not bring large-scale investments in technology.

It will be a gap year, preparing for the Estonian new factory project and collecting financial reserves.

Metaprint will enter a new investment cycle in the first and second quarters of 2024. The technology renewal cycle is expected to last until the end of 2027.

As Estonian tax laws do not offer benefits for development activities, the company does not separately disclose the amounts spent on this activity. We can laconically state here that the procurement cost of materials intended for various tests was over 31 thousand euros. Of course, development costs did not actually end there. It should also be taken into account that development activities were also carried out by Metaprint AS sister companies in different countries.

Everyday business in an environment of endless crises did not offer market participants a breather in the 2022 fiscal year either. The year began with an unprecedented rise in the price of packaging steel, which reached nearly 80%. This, in turn, led to an almost 40% increase in the price of aerosol packaging. Such numerical dynamics had never been seen in the industry during its existence. Such a sharp increase in prices had a very strong negative impact on demand. Certain product groups, mainly related to the DIY segment, experienced a free fall in demand. In the first half of the year, the sale of aerosol paints decreased by up to 60%. Several other hobby product groups were also hit. However, not all of the lost demand can be attributed to the staggering price increase, the ended Covid-19 restrictions shifted people's focus from home activities back to travel and spending time outdoors. That's where the end consumer's cash flow went. Industrial consumers continued with relatively strong demand, as order portfolios accumulated during Covid-19 had not yet been realized. Overall, the European technical aerosol product market declined by almost 25%. However, Metaprint managed to achieve a 10% volume decline, which once again proved our ability to cope better than the market average.

Profitability began to be severely affected by the rise in energy carrier prices that began in the summer, which peaked in August. Metaprint was able to make its own modest contribution by allocating an additional nearly 1 million euros to the profit line of the national Eesti Energia. According to the belief of Estonian politicians, our economic system is immune to the support policies of neighboring governments and such distortion of competition does not affect Estonian entrepreneurs. To end the suffering of the struggling manufacturing industry more quickly, it was considered reasonable to increase the transmission fees for energy carriers. The general dissatisfaction of entrepreneurs was alleviated by the initiative of the Minister of Economy to put an information board at the expense of the state at every manufacturing company. We can highlight the positive result achieved from this project in the following activity reports, if we are lucky enough to get a sign purchased through a minority bid in front of our modest facility. Other less important factors affecting the economic environment include brutal inflation and very rapid interest rates.
