's activity report 2022

ABB has been operating in Estonia since 1992. In 2022, the company's activities were divided into four areas: sales (products, equipment, systems), production (engines, generators, frequency converters, in addition to the development of energy storage devices), equipment and system maintenance services, and business services (procurement and personnel services for ABB group companies and representation of Baltic financial services).

Overview of the Estonian economy

According to Statistics Estonia, industrial enterprises produced 1.9 percent less output in constant prices in 2022 than a year earlier. Production grew in two of the three sectors of industry: energy by 5.4 percent, mining by 7.3 percent, but decreased in manufacturing by 2.7 percent.

The beginning of 2022 was good for the manufacturing industry - the best month was March, when its production grew by 6.7 percent compared to a year earlier. From June onwards, a decline in the volumes of the manufacturing industry could be observed, and the weakest month of the year was November with a 13.1 percent decline.

According to Statistics Estonia, volumes fell in more than half of the 23 activities of the manufacturing industry last year. Of the larger activities, the production of computers and electronic equipment (10.3%) and electrical equipment (4.8%) grew. The production of shale oil and food remained almost at the same level.

Among the industries with a larger share, wood processing (7.6%) and the production of metal products (5.2%) and furniture (10.1%) decreased.

67.4 percent of the total production of the manufacturing industry was sold to foreign markets in 2022. Compared to the previous year, exports grew by 18.1 percent, and sales to the domestic market by 17.1 percent.

ABB Group's 2022 review 2022 was another successful year for the ABB Group. Order volumes grew to $34.0 billion, 7 percent more than the previous year. The company's revenues grew by 2 percent, reaching $29.4 billion. Operating profit before interest, taxes, and depreciation (EBITA) grew by 9 percent over the year, reaching $4.5 billion. The EBITA margin increased by 110 basis points, reaching 15.3 percent, thus achieving the 15 percent EBITA margin target a year earlier than planned.

The result is due to both the positive effects of strong pricing and increased order volumes, which more than compensated for the growth in material, freight and labor costs caused by rapid inflation.

The company's net profit was $2.5 billion, cash flows $1.3 billion. Customer deliveries were affected by component availability restrictions in the first half of the year, but these effects gradually decreased during the year. Operating income amounted to $3.34 billion, compared to $5.7 billion in the same period a year earlier. The 2022 results included charges associated with the discontinuation of the railway modernization business and a provision related to the Kusile project in South Africa, which began in 2015. In contrast, the 2021 results were affected by a $2.2 billion accounting profit - the aforementioned net profit includes notional income from the divestment of the mechanical power transmission business in 2021.

Simplifying the structure of ABB Group owners In 2022, it was decided to simplify the structure of the owners of the ABB Group's Nordic business units.

As a result, ABB Norden Holding Aktiebolag divested 74% of ABB AS shares owned by it to ABB Asea Brown Boveri Ltd. The financial impact of the transfer of shares to ABB AS
