The economic activity of Puumarket AS is directly affected by the surrounding economic environment
According to Statistics Estonia, in 2022, GDP fell by 1.3% compared to the previous year.
The biggest positive impact came from the recovery of accommodation and catering from the coronavirus crisis. Real estate activities, energy, trade, agriculture, and financial activities stood out with a stronger negative contribution.
Private consumption grew by 2.6% last year, while government sector consumption remained at the 2021 level. Investments fell by 10.9% over the year. Both exports (5.0%) and imports (5.8%) grew at a fairly comparable pace.
However, net exports were negative for the second year in a row - 200 million euros more goods and services were bought into Estonia than could be sold abroad.
According to preliminary data from Statistics Estonia, construction companies built 1% less in Estonia and abroad in 2022 than the year before.
Construction companies built a total of 4.2 billion euros, of which buildings accounted for 2.8 billion and facilities for 1.4 billion euros.
Compared to 2021, 6% fewer buildings and 9% more facilities (such as roads, bridges, ports, trunk pipelines, telecommunications and power lines, sports fields, etc.) were built.
The volumes of Estonian construction companies operating abroad increased by 5% compared to the previous year. Less building construction was done and more facilities were built. The share of construction work done abroad in the total construction volume was 5% in 2022.

According to the Building Register, 6521 new dwellings were commissioned, which is 3% less than the year before. The majority (65%) of new dwellings are located in apartment buildings. The most popular type of housing was a 3-5 storey apartment building. Most of the completed dwellings are located in Tallinn, followed by the municipalities around Tallinn and Tartu County.
In 2022, a building permit was issued for the construction of 6763 dwellings, which is almost a quarter less than the year before.
The most preferred type of housing was still an apartment building (a total of 3941 dwellings, including 2119 dwellings in 3-5 storey apartment buildings).
977 non-residential buildings with a useful area of 666,800 square meters were commissioned. The most new warehouse, industrial and commercial building space was added. Compared to the previous year, both the area and volume of non-residential buildings commissioned increased.

We were able to maintain and increase sales revenue compared to 2021. Puumarket's 2022 can be summarized as successful. Puumarket's business continued in traditional areas, offering our customers as wide a range of wood and general building materials as possible - for retail, wholesale, and business customers. Puumarket invested in 2022.
