The words characterizing 2022 are: from one crisis to another. This year will be remembered as a year of pivotal changes and quick decisions. In addition to the Russian military aggression in Ukraine that began in February, the energy crisis, price increases for products, and exceptionally rapid inflation also became keywords of the year.
Balmerk Estonia's turnover increased in 2022, but profit decreased. The growth in costs was mainly influenced by global input price increases, rising transport and logistics costs, and labor cost growth.
Balmerk Estonia's sales revenue in 2022 increased by 11% compared to 2021, and the net profit for 2022 decreased by 26% compared to 2021.
In 2022, Balmerk Estonia OÜ focused on promoting sales of the existing product portfolio as well as developing, selling and maintaining and growing the market share of added brands.
In 2022, we continued to invest in consumer campaigns to maintain sales volumes and market share.
Due to Russian military aggression in Ukraine, we terminated cooperation with all Russian suppliers and this did not have a significant impact on overall business operations or sustainability.
As is typical for retail trade, Balmerk Estonia's business operations also have certain seasonal fluctuations. The sales revenue for the first quarter was approximately 20% lower and the sales revenue for the fourth quarter was approximately 11% higher than the average quarterly sales revenue. Similar to previous years, the highest sales periods were the summer months (June, July, August) and the months leading up to the end of the year (November, December). The wine group continues to have the largest share among product groups, which grew by 7% compared to 2021. The biggest increase was in the group of light and non-alcoholic beverages, which grew by 26% compared to 2021.
