5 signs it's time to replace your mattress
As we spend roughly a third of our lives asleep, the importance of a good mattress cannot be overstated. It's the foundation of a restful night's sleep, and when it starts to decline, so too can the quality of your sleep and overall health.
Sign #1: You're Not Sleeping Well
If you find yourself tossing and turning, waking up frequently during the night, or feeling tired even after a full night's sleep, it might be time to consider whether your mattress is to blame.
Sign #2: Visible Signs of Wear and Tear
Sagging, lumps, and springs that can be felt through the mattress are clear indicators that your mattress has seen better days. These signs of wear and tear can compromise the support and comfort your mattress is supposed to provide.
Sign #3: Increased Allergy or Asthma Symptoms
Old mattresses can become a haven for dust mites, pet dander, and other allergens, which can exacerbate allergies or asthma. If you notice an increase in symptoms, it might be due to your mattress.
Sign #4: You Hear Noises or Feel Motion Transfer
A noisy mattress or one that allows for significant motion transfer can disrupt your sleep. If you're awakened by your partner's movements or by the creaks and groans of an old mattress, it's a sign that it's time for a replacement.
Sign #5: Your Mattress is Over 7-10 Years Old
Most mattresses have a lifespan of 7-10 years. If yours is older, it may not be providing the support and comfort you need. Even if it doesn't show obvious signs of deterioration, age can take its toll on the internal structure of your mattress.
