's activity report 2022
The Estonian Fish Producers' Central Association (hereinafter the Central Association) is a commercial association, whose members are recognized sprat and herring producer organizations, which are engaged in industrial fishing and fish processing. Estonia
The members of the Fish Producers' Central Association are: Estonian Fishing Association, Estonian Professional Fishermen's Association and Estonian
Trawl Fishing Association.
The aim of the Central Association is to coordinate and develop activities of interest to the producer organizations in the association and to process low-value fish. 2022 was the fourth full year of operation for the Central Association's Paldiski fishmeal and fish oil factory.
As the year progressed, three major investments were made.
- Upgrading the factory technology with an additional oil separator to ensure the reliability of the factory in this area and to increase the oil purification capacity. So far, one separator was in use, which had to stop the entire factory for repair in case of failures, in addition, the capacity of the separator was not sufficient for operating the factory at full capacity. A process water separator was also added to the factory, which reduces the load on the factory's condensation towers (energy and maintenance savings, but also significantly cleaner wastewater directed to the factory's wastewater treatment plant.
- An additional finished goods warehouse was built for storing fishmeal, with a capacity of up to 900 tons.
As a result of this investment, the factory's ability to choose the appropriate time to sell its products will significantly improve, as additional storage buffer was created.
- The wastewater treatment plant was expanded and the cleaning technology was improved, which corresponds to the factory's production volume (so far, during peak load operation, a significant part of the wastewater had to be transported for further treatment to Tallinn Water's water treatment plant
Investments also focused on increasing the use of renewable energy - for example, a solar park has been integrated into the roof of the finished goods warehouse, with a maximum production capacity of 120 kW, in addition, an electric telescopic loader was purchased for the Central Association for transporting finished goods on the factory premises and for cleaning the factory premises and for repair work in the factory. Both the PVC hall solar park and the electric telescopic loader are the first of their kind in Estonia
The customer base has been consistently grown and diversified. There were about 20 different customers to whom products were sold annually. A significant part of EU member states are covered geographically (mainly
Denmark, France), there are also customers outside the EU, for example Ukraine. Exports to the United States
States also began.
There are no significant research and development projects and related expenditures in progress during the reporting year and in the following years. To increase the efficiency of the factory process, cooperation was started with a Danish consulting firm, whose task is to train operators and advise on process developments.
The demand for fishmeal and fish oil in the world remains high. In the short term, developments in foreign markets may also affect the activities of the Central Association, but in the long term there should be no problems with marketing the products, this is supported by a geographically diverse customer base. The seasonality of business is largely as planned, i.e., there is no active production in the factory during the summer months. Thanks to the new finished goods warehouse, it is better possible to meet the demand of those customers who need stable fishmeal supplies all year round, so far the Central Association's delivery capacity was
