1. Mission and overall direction

Throughout 2024 MTÜ Wikiganda continued to advance its core mission – increasing the availability of well-sourced, neutral and up-to-date knowledge on Wikipedia, especially in areas vulnerable to disinformation.

2. Editorial focus in 2024

Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine – we expanded and maintained a cluster of articles on the humanitarian impact, sanctions, and war crimes, focusing on reliable multilingual sourcing.

Armed conflict in the Middle East (Israel–Hamas war) – created and monitored pages covering key events of the Gaza conflict.

Arctic ecology & climate change – launched a long-term project on permafrost thawing and related climate feedbacks in the Russian

Arctic, in cooperation with subject-matter scientists.

3. Technology and tool development

We invested in the beta development of Wikify.io: real-time cross-lingual watchlists covering 10+ language editions; machine-learning module that flags potentially biased or vandalistic edits within minutes; first external pilot users from two partner NGOs.

4. Community outreach & capacity building

Held online training sessions for civil-society editors and jornalists from East Europe.

5. Outlook for 2025

We plan to (a) move Wikify.io into open beta, (b) broaden climate-related coverage to Antarctic and sub-Arctic regions, and (c) continue counter-disinformation work on current conflicts. In addition, we aim to expand our environmental content by addressing marine pollution and plastic waste, with a particular emphasis on ocean conservation. Editorial efforts will primarily target the Russian- and English-language

Wikipedias.
