's activity report 2022

The Foundation for the Promotion of Education was established with the aim of running the general education school Tartu Private School TERA, kindergarten TERAKE and hobby school

HuviTera.

In total, 737 students studied at Tartu Private School in the 2021/2022 academic year (as of EHIS 10.11.2021), of which 64 in TERA Peedu school, 166 students in LõunaTERA, 163 students in ProTERA, 329 students in TäheTERA, 15 students in SädeTERA. 160 children studied in the pre-school and kindergarten of Tartu Private School. In the kindergarten

TERAKE there were a total of 181 children, in HuviTERA about 420 children. There are more applicants for school and kindergarten places than we can offer.

The 2021/2022 operating year is characterized most by adapting to changes and restrictions caused by the COVID-19 virus. The main focus had to be directed to emergency activities, including organizing distance learning, etc. Many traditional joint activities were canceled due to restrictions.

On the positive side, our previous activities showed that implemented educational innovations helped to cope with the complexity of situations. Previous

Investments in ICT tools and investment in digital competencies allowed the continuation of teaching from a distance. In addition, smaller and more local management teams in schools also became a strength, ensuring mobility and quick solutions, teachers felt support, the quality of students' learning did not suffer significantly.

In substantive activities, it was important that the new TERA curriculum creation process began. In connection with the possible implementation of the new national curriculum in 2023, we started collecting inputs in all TERA school locations and analyzing the content of the curriculum so far. In addition, we created a cross-TERA agreement called Teravik, which sets out the basic principles of operation in all school locations.

SädeTERA is growing and an agreement has been reached for the development of a new study place on Staadioni Street. SädeTERA is intended for the first and second stages of school, where animal-inclusive teaching is regularly carried out by specialists with the appropriate education, involving certified animals. The focus is on achieving academic competencies, motivating students, developing social skills, cognitive function development, gifted children's study direction, individual study. The goal is to develop the microschool SädeTERA into a unique and enriching school location for the TERA school network.

The ventilation system was renovated in the Tähe tn 4 study building to ensure the air quality necessary for a modern school. Separate study rooms were provided for the Karlova Innovation Nest operating at TäheTERA. The activities of the Karlova Innovation Nest have been successful, most of the project activities have achieved their goals. Trainings, consultations and practicums were held to support the conduct of subject lessons and the use of innovative teaching aids in them. An educational community operates between the project partners - Tartu Private School, Tartu Karlova School and Tartu Art School - and teaching materials and aids are created together. An agreement was reached on the use of the innovation nest rooms and they began to actively use and rent the rooms and tools to interested parties.

In addition, Tartu Private School participates as a partner in several “Erasmus+” projects. Teaching aids were purchased to support individual learning and active breaks with the support of the HEV measure project.

In the educational and upbringing work of the kindergarten TERAKE, the focus was on implementing the principles of Reggio Emilia based on the child and applying the subgroup work method in groups. Cooperation with the University of Tartu continued in conducting the practice of early childhood education teachers. Attention was paid to outdoor learning and the kindergarten's outdoor area was supplemented with activity places and tools for exploration and discovery. In personnel development, team trainings on Reggio Emilia pedagogy continued and trainings to increase teachers' IT competence.

The main activity of HuviTERA in the 2021/2022 academic year was to provide hobby education for children and young people living in Tartu. Hobby education was offered in the fields of technology, sports, general culture, music and art, with a continued emphasis on the development of the technology field. We also paid attention to young people in the third stage of school and offered them new hobby circles (eg role-playing games, orienteering, ukulele). We organized hobby education in

TäheTERA, LõunaTERA and ProTERA. We participated in various school hobby days (MHG, Forselius school), city events (knowledge day, children's protection day), organized events ourselves (chess tournament in Tartu city center) and camps (school holiday camps, at the end of the academic year we prepared hobby camps). HuviTERA successfully participated in various city projects, thanks to which we received the necessary teaching aids (3D printers).

A project has been completed in Tartu parish, Ermi tee 11 and Ermi tee 9 properties for the construction of a new RaadiTERA kindergarten-primary school. Cooperation has begun with the developer regarding construction calculations and tenders..

From the economic side, the Foundation for the Promotion of Education needs to make rearrangements to save costs. Soaring energy prices and utility costs have significantly increased operating costs compared to the past. There is still high pressure to raise the salaries of teachers and other employees. It is necessary to increase tuition fees by up to 20% and increase own income from training and expertise sales.

In the 2021/2022 academic year, 166 employees worked at the Foundation for the Promotion of Education.
