's activity report 2022
ACTIVITY REPORT 2022
The main activity of the joint-stock company PLANTEX is nursery cultivation (EMTAK 01301), retail and wholesale of seedlings and gardening supplies (EMTAK 47761). The main product groups are: berry and fruit trees, conifers, rose seedlings, ornamental trees and shrubs, closed root ball forest plants, and summer and perennial flowers.
The company has a total of 7 physical sales points throughout Estonia, in addition to an online store. A total of approximately 5.07 hectares of goods are on display in their nurseries for customers to explore. Some of Plantex AS's nurseries are open year-round (Christmas trees, wreaths, etc. during the winter), while others use seasonal opening. The company did not expand its retail network in 2022, continuing with the year-to-year model.
The company is a supplier of seedlings (wholesale) to many of the larger retail chains in Estonia. They are in a position where almost all of Estonia can find Juhani Puukool's products in retail. The largest selection and the most special varieties are naturally represented in their own nurseries. 2022.
The balance between wholesale, retail and project sales remained the same in 2022.
The company's daily management takes place in Lohkva, Tartumaa. There are a total of six production units throughout Estonia, goods are dispatched and transit takes place in two wholesale warehouses, in Tallinn and Tartu. Different cultures have very different production cycles, AS Plantex is also a micropropagation production company, which is the only one in Estonia to produce vegetatively propagated forest seedlings and fruit trees and shrubs in large quantities.
Almost a million plants are propagated in the micropropagation laboratory every year. In 2022, micropropagated forest plants were marketed to Sweden and Lithuania.
There was no direct expansion in terms of production areas in 2022, the activities of the company's nurseries are organized on approximately 46 hectares.
The biggest challenge for the company's operations in 2022 was seasonality, changes in supply chains, inflation and energy costs. The main reason for most factors was the Russian-Ukrainian war that began in early 2022. With the collapse of the Russian market, changes occurred in supply chains, mainly due to supply chain problems, price levels changed and inflation increased. One of the biggest drivers of inflation were also energy carrier prices, which in turn were greatly changed due to the war in Ukraine. The large increase in costs has forced companies to reorganize production activities and review the efficiency of retail sales.
No significant research and development projects and related expenditures are foreseen for the reporting year and the following years.
The total turnover in 2022 was 7.02 million EUR, which compared to 2021 (7.12 million EUR) was less by 1.37%. The stability of turnover was due to several factors: 2022 was again the first year when customers could go and buy seedlings also cross-border (Latvia, Lithuania, Poland).
Customer spending on the garden and home had been significantly higher than usual for the past two years, and achieving the same turnover level was pioneering in the industry. Many gardening-related companies fell back to pre-corona turnover levels.
There were no risks associated with changes in exchange rates and interest rates during the reporting year.
In 2022, the joint-stock company PLANTEX employed an average of 130 employees - CEO, retail manager, production manager, sales development manager, product managers, gardeners, sellers, office workers and other workers. A total of 2,744,822 euros in wages were paid in 2022, including social tax. The member of the board of the joint-stock company was paid a salary with social tax of 10,375 EUR. No remuneration was paid to the members of the Supervisory Board. No remuneration or benefits are provided for the recall or departure of members of the Management Board and the Supervisory Board.
For 2023, a year with a similar turnover level is forecasted, where people will continue to invest in their homes and supplement/improve landscaping projects started in 2022 on development projects. Certainly, the ongoing
Ukrainian war and the general unrest and uncertainty resulting from it, the decline and stagnation of the construction market, the tightness of local government budgets due to the rise in Euribor, and the general decline in consumer purchasing power will continue to affect the results of 2023.
