's activity report 2022
Since 2000, the main activity of OÜ Sandla Puit has been the production of prefabricated wooden buildings (saunas, garden houses, sheds, garages). The majority of the company's production goes directly or through Estonian business intermediaries to Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Spain and other countries.
The production is characterized by environmental friendliness, as the construction of a wooden house does not produce harmful waste and the continuous improvement of processes is part of the company's daily work. The Sandla Puit team values a healthy and sustainable environment. All generated wood waste is used, either for heating production buildings or for the production of wood briquettes.
The raw material used for production is Nordic coniferous wood, which comes from well-managed forests and is certified by the FSC.
The wooden house sector is generally seasonal, with greater interest in products from spring to autumn.
Due to the situation in the world economy and the Russian Federation's war of aggression in Ukraine and the sanctions imposed as a result, the wooden house production sector currently has fewer orders than production capacities allow.
As wood is a renewable and environmentally friendly building material, the use of wood in construction is a growing trend in the future. Also, in the context of the green transition, wood products play an important role in carbon sequestration.
Therefore, wooden house manufacturers have a firm place in the construction sector. We see some recovery in the markets this (2023) and next (2024) year, but it is unlikely to reach the 2021 level yet. According to forecasts, we could exceed the 2021 level in 2025.
In 2022, the company had 71 employees and labor costs amounted to 1.6 million euros.
In 2022, the company's sales revenue was 10.2 million euros, of which 5.5 million euros worth was sold to Estonian customers and 4.7 million euros worth
to German customers. An estimated 95% of OÜ Sandla Puit's production goes either directly or through Estonian intermediaries out of Estonia. Compared to the previous financial year, sales revenue decreased by 12%. The main reasons for the decline in sales revenue were the rise in input prices, the reopening of the world after the corona crisis (potential customers were able to start traveling again), the cooling of the market, and indirectly also the effects of the Ukraine-Russia war (customers are more cautious about financial expenditures).
The operating profit for 2022 was 562 thousand euros and the net profit was 348 thousand euros. The debt burden increased by 120 thousand euros during the reporting year and interest expenses amounted to 100 thousand euros. The loans and leases received are linked to Euribor and therefore there is a risk of an increase in interest expenses.
OÜ Sandla Puit has also invested in the associated company Insel Mill OÜ, which is engaged in the production and sale of wooden buildings and sawn timber.
The investment is accounted for using the equity method and a loss of 113 thousand euros was incurred from the investment during the reporting year.
Investments in fixed assets amounted to 888 thousand euros during the reporting year. Assets worth 1.5 million euros, including equipment worth 458 thousand euros and buildings worth 999 thousand euros, were put into use from unfinished projects in fixed assets. The value of ongoing projects was 1.1 million euros at the end of the year, which is planned to be put into use in 2023.
The company has received energy and resource efficiency support through the Environmental Investment Center from the European Regional Development Fund.
The targeted financing is used to purchase new wood processing equipment. The total cost of the project is 1.5 million euros, of which the support amount is 532 thousand euros. During the reporting year, 167 thousand euros were received and a total of 318 thousand euros of targeted financing has been received.
For the next period, it is planned to increase production volume, improve and optimize production processes, expand the customer base and existing markets. Investments of approximately 400-500 thousand euros are planned in fixed assets. The company does not plan to change the number of employees in 2023.
