General info
Ericsson Eesti AS (hereinafter referred to as the "Company") is a subsidiary of the Ericsson Group, established in 1996, whose main activities are
The sale of Ericsson Group products and services and the production and development of mobile devices. The company belongs to Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson AB, based in Sweden, which owns 100% of Ericsson Eesti AS. Ericsson Eesti AS carries forward the group's vision to be a leader in the field of communication, creating a world where people can communicate at any time and in any place. To this end, the company's business strategy today focuses on creating value in three main areas: increasing the efficiency of communication technologies through virtualization and automation, improving the user experience by accelerating and simplifying the provision of services and network settings, and increasing customers' business volumes through new key technologies such as 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT). The Internet of Things is a network of interconnected devices that share and exchange information with the user and each other and perform certain tasks together.
The company is divided into two business units according to its business model - a sales organization and a production and development organization, the latter of which includes the majority of employees. The company's sales organization offers information and communication technology (ICT) solutions to Estonian business customers and also to other subsidiaries of the group. The company's production and development organization participates in the group's development processes and also produces mobile devices for other subsidiaries of the group and Estonian business customers.
Overview of the economic environment
The network society is a reality of today's society. We increasingly see real situations where machines are interconnected and share data without human intervention, virtual reality is increasingly used, and the digitalization of cities is accelerating. All these innovations require a more modern and larger data volume enabling network. This is what Ericsson offers through the innovative 5G technology.
No previous mobile technology has had such an economic growth potential as 5G. This technology goes beyond simply connecting people; it makes possible the advent of the Internet of Things and Industry 4.0, 5G is the basis for these changes. Digital cities, industrial Internet of Things, virtual reality, self-driving cars - these are just a few examples that could be our new normal when 5G becomes part of our ecosystem.
The volume of data traffic passing through mobile networks continues to grow rapidly: from the fourth quarter of 2021 to the end of 2022, data traffic volume increased by 40%. The number of mobile network users continues to grow - in 2022, the number of users worldwide increased to 8.4 billion (8.2 billion in 2021). According to Ericsson's forecasts, mobile data traffic will grow more than 4 times over the next five years compared to 2022.
As mobile networks can be overloaded at certain times, Ericsson offers network operators products that allow existing frequencies to be used more efficiently and also to introduce new frequency ranges. A significant part of the development work will be directed towards bringing 5G network devices to the market in the coming years. The first networks based on 5G radio technology were already introduced in 2019. The deployment of 5G will continue in 2023, laying the groundwork for a massive transition to 5G over the next five years. By 2028, more than 5 billion 5G network users are already predicted.
